Change Management

Change Management- transforming people, processes or materials to add more value to the customer. Sounds simple! We all want to please our customers so we should always be willing to change!

Wrong!

Change is a very difficult task. If you ask employees what they think about change, you will find that most people have negative attitudes towards change. Why? Fear! They fear learning new processes or technology, loss of status in the organization, a higher workload, less money or losing their job. These are not unfounded.

Many organizations use change only as a last resort to bankruptcy. The media focuses on negative news such as plant closings, job cuts, sales loss, pay cuts, etc.

Many people connect ‘change’ to a negative event and therefore all change is negative. This leads to frustration and denial that change is needed and out come the old clichés; “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or “We never had to do that before to make money”. The reality is that the world changes, markets change, competition becomes greater and customers expect more from us.

We have to drive out the fear of change from our organizations! We do that by answering the question: “What’s in it for me?” or WIFFM. A clearly designed set of goals is the starting point and sell, sell, sell, it! You can never over communicate change!

Once we have everyone’s attention, the leadership team must continue to lead the project to completion. Completion means the formal institutionalization of the change so that is it now part of the normal process. No backsliding!

In this presentation, we will explore the 8 critical stages of the change process, the 4 most common mistakes leader’s make when implementing change, the 4 dimensions of change and other points to help you overcome the fear of change!
