"Networking is King"

By esimsic - Posted on 07 February 2009

Why would anyone want to spend nights and weekends being on the Board of Directors for APICS? You must really be lonely or not have a life. Not really, it is called networking, continued education, fulfillment, and most of all being involved in something that you can make a difference.

One of my responsibilities is to ensure that the employment section is managed for APICS members. This responsibility gives me insight to what the employment market is doing and also keeps me close to those companies looking for change. What better way to be in the forefront of opportunities. What amazes me is when I hear about people who have lost their jobs or are just looking to advance into a new field or company and they have not even bothered to look at the APICS web site for open opportunities around Cleveland. Are they not the right type of person who should be looking at these Fortune 100 companies? Maybe they are the ones who no one wants to employee so why tell them about this site? Then I realize that the APICS members are one of the top professional groups around Cleveland with skill sets that are above and beyond any employer can hope to have on their team.

So here is an important notice:

Every day we hear about layoffs. Everyday there are well educated, skilled, and dedicated employees looking for opportunities. APICS offers to all members the opportunity to search for new and exciting positions around the Cleveland area. Located on the APICS web site under www.apicscleveland.info/?q=careers are open positions that companies are looking to hire.

So I ask you:

When was the last time you looked at the employment opportunities listed in APICS? If it has been some time, now is the time to move forward into a challenging career or just see what companies are looking for in employees. Oh, did I mention that all APICS member are able to send in their resume and it is stored on a data base that gets reviewed every time a new opportunity comes open? The only thing you are required to do is update it after six months or it becomes closed. That is of course if you are interested in improving your overall wealth, and well being.

I look forward to getting your resume and inquiring about the opportunities around Cleveland. Do not hesitate o talk to me at the PDM’s. You never know who I may know and what is open. Networking is “King”.

Sincerely,
Ed Simsic
Secretary & Employment Services Coordinator
